When it’s gone, it’s gone

This goes with our previous post where we talked about junk foods.

If you must have them, decide ahead of time how much you will “need” to satisfy your cravings.

Any of you who have had children may know the frustration of some of their constant wants for junk food.

My son who is only six could literally eat a bag of chips a day… no kidding.

It can be really hard to set limits for children.  You could barely have one foot in the door with the groceries before they want to gobble up all those sugary and salty snacks.

I would get so weary from struggling with them. I usually allow my kids to pick 1-2 snacks for the week.

Instead of making myself crazy with trying to prevent the kids (especially my son) from eating too many portions in one day, I have adopted the “when it’s gone, it’s gone” rule.

It’s not really the healthiest of rules…as he sometimes will still go through a bag of chips in a day.
But he is getting used to the idea that if he eats it all the moment we get home…there are no snacks left for the week for him.

We can also use this rule on ourselves.  If you chose an unhealthy snack for yourself, you could try to limit your portion size so you can have enough to get your through…
Or ultimately, when it’s gone, it’s gone… then you won’t be having any more until your next shopping trip.
